General Optical Council

The General Optical Council (GOC) is the regulatory body for the Optical Professions, including Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians, Contact Lens Opticians and Therapeutic Optometrists practising in the UK.

All of these professional groups have their own set of Continuing Education and Training (CET) requirements to meet in order to remain on the register.

The Brief

Working in partnership with Perceptive, we designed a new platform for the GOC CET scheme, used by registrants to plan personal development goals and monitor their progress.

The Creative Outcome

Although it retained the original structure and navigation, the new platform featured updated colours and styling. This gave the platform a professional, contemporary and clean aesthetic, in line with the GOC’s latest brand guidelines. We designed the key pages with a particular focus on user experience (UX) design, ensuring they were fully responsive and intuitive across both desktop and mobile.

In order to implement consistency across the template designs, we created a style guide. This covered key elements such as buttons, tables and infographics to ensure all pages could be updated seamlessly.

“We have enjoyed a positive experience partnering with Firefly to build our website. They were quickly able to discern the style and functionality that would fit for us and our international target audience.

In addition to providing a design we loved they also balanced the competing demands of SEO optimisation with an aesthetically pleasing site. Much appreciated!”
