ACT Blade

With bases in Edinburgh and Naples, ACT Blade offer the lightest, most controllable wind turbine blade technology on the market.

The company collaborates with industry leaders and European Research centres with a focus on advancing the efficiency of sustainable renewable energy.

The Brief

ACT Blade commissioned us to undertake a brand development project aimed at establishing their brand and products as the leading turbine blades in the industry. The project included the design of a new logo, a cohesive brand identity, and production of branded materials such as PowerPoint and Word templates. We were also tasked with realising the brand across a Wix website design and build, a promotional 40-second motion graphics video, an exhibition banner stand, a suite of key brand iconography and brand guidelines.

The Creative Outcome

We began the project by developing the logo and brand identity. The logo marque concept was based on a feather to symbolise the turbine blade’s unique lightweight design.  The feather marque was formed from a blue gradient swoosh and positioned above the word ‘ACT’ to balance the logo composition and was complemented by a clean sans-serif typeface that conveys modernity and precision.

The ACT Blade colour palette was formed from shades of blue that are synonymous with the renewable energy industry, symbolising trust and innovation. A deep midnight blue, offset with a bright sky blue and titanium grey, contributes to a professional aesthetic that forms a strong base for communications to feature technical drawings and stunning imagery and footage.

We created a flagship 40-second promotional video to engage with the target audience and clearly communicate the features of the product.  We began by developing a script that distilled multiple key messages to form a succinct script, followed by the creation of a storyboard which utilised motion graphics techniques to highlight the USPs of the product. The video effectively showcases the product’s impact on both reducing the carbon footprint and increasing energy production. Designed to be informative and engaging, the video delivered a clear message which perfectly aligned with ACT Blade’s innovative new brand identity.

For the new ACT Blade website, it was essential to convey key information about the company’s innovative product, and its impact on the renewable energy sector. We designed a user-friendly website utilising Wix, leveraging its features to create an engaging and professional online presence. A simplified site map helped to ensure seamless navigation and enhance the overall user experience.

The brand was applied to various assets, including an exhibition banner stand for use at international conferences and Microsoft PowerPoint and Word templates, which ACT Blade utilised for key presentations and reports. The templates were designed to offer the team efficient tools that communicated the brand consistently. They utilised a well-balanced typographic hierarchy to guide users through the information and incorporated the suite of key brand icons to help engage viewers and reinforce the brand identity.

To ensure the brand could be applied consistently across all platforms in the future, we developed comprehensive brand guidelines detailing the logo usage, typography, colour palette, and key brand imagery.
