WALTER SCOTT PRIZE.

Sponsored by the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, The Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction is one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the world. The prize is unique for rewarding outstanding writing set in the past and awards over £30,000.

The Brief

Firefly was commissioned to design the logo, branding, exhibition displays and printed collateral for the prize.

The Creative Outcome

The logo design we created portrayed the prize as contemporary and innovative, whilst reflecting its historical influences. An original woodcut artwork of a young Sir Walter Scott was supplied by the client and graphically treated to create a scalable vector image. Applying a bright colour gradient added instant impact, whilst simultaneously modernising the brand. This was combined with a clean, highly legible typeface. We overlapped two ‘Vs’ to create the letter ‘W’, giving the typography a unique edge.

We created a variation on the logo for the Young Walter Scott Prize. Each of the eye catching logo designs help to build brand awareness, as well as connecting and resonating with the brands broad target audience.

Lastly, we created a comprehensive set of brand guidelines to ensure the logo and accompanying design elements were applied correctly across all touch points, creating a strong and consistent brand identity.
