THE FARR INSTITUTE.

The Farr Institute was a UK-wide research collaboration involving 21 academic institutions and health partners in England, Scotland and Wales.

The Brief

Firefly was commissioned to develop the Farr Institute’s branding, across a new website design using a WordPress content management system (CMS), email marketing templates and various print communications.

The brand development was centred around promoting their work delivering high-quality, cutting-edge research and using ‘big data’ to advance the health and care of patients and the public.

The Creative Outcome

During the brand development stage, we focused on giving the Institute’s branding a fresh and contemporary edge. The existing colour palette, which consisted of primary colours, was expanded to include complementary secondary colours, clearly distinguishing the Institute’s key areas of work. Moreover, we designed bespoke iconography, which helped to break down complex information in a clear and compelling way. The simplistic icons are complimented by a series of molecular patterns, designed to highlight the professional and academic nature of the organisation and add depth to the brand.

Designed with longevity in mind and responsive across all devices, the website offers an intuitive user experience, which guides visitors seamlessly around key pages. We highlighted the news, events and social media sections of the website, which were accompanied by engaging imagery and videos. The emphasis on this dynamic content adds a human touch to the website, helping to connect with patients and the public, and drive engagement.

The literature we designed incorporates the vibrant colour palette and molecular pattern we developed to create consistency across all touch points. Whilst the modern san serif typeface ensures legibility and reflects the contemporary aesthetic of the brand, the use of typographic hierarchy helps to communicate core messages clearly and succinctly.

The extended colour palette was also used to differentiate content across the Institute’s email marketing communications. Using MailChimp as the Email Service Provider (ESP), we created templates for each subject matter. This provided the Institute with ownership over their email marketing, whilst ensuring consistency, strengthening brand awareness.
