Set up with one million pounds of funding from the Scottish Government through the Scottish Funding Council, the challenge enabled three companies to develop solutions that would improve the lives of cancer patients.
Firefly was initially commissioned to develop the brand and create a flagship animation to promote the work of the CIC and the three brilliant ideas developed by Px Healthcare, My Clinical Outcomes and Canon Medical Research Europe. Following the success of the animation we produced a range of printed communications including an exhibition display stand, brochure design, case study flyers and promo items.
During the brand development stage, we used illustration to create a playful and inclusive character style that was full of personality for the animation. Relatable and accessible to a broad target audience, this dynamic style formed the foundations of the CIC brand moving forward.
Once the animation style had been established, we moved on to copywriting, creating a polished script which refined and communicated the CIC’s core message clearly and succinctly in an engaging way. We used this script to develop a detailed storyboard, exploring different ways to bring our characters to life and communicate the complex nature of the life sciences projects in an easily digestible way.
A Scottish voiceover artist with a soft tone added a friendly touch to the animation. The resulting two-minute video premiered at the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) conference and serves as a promotional tool on the CIC’s website and at events. A condensed version was also created for social media, enhancing engagement with a broader audience.
The illustrative brand style was extended to printed promotional materials, including an exhibition display, flyers, and a brochure. We designed the brochure to outline the activity undertaken by the CIC so far and case study flyers focusing on the three projects. We used a contemporary typeface and clear typographic hierarchy to engage readers and help to break down complex information in an easily digestible way. The printed collateral features the same illustrative characters in a playful way to help break up text and maintain a consistent application of the CIC brand to strengthen and build brand awareness.
