Set up by Scottish Parliament in 2006, the Scottish Human Rights Commission is an independent public body that promotes and protects the human rights of all people in Scotland. They work alongside and support public authorities to ensure human rights standards are upheld to the highest standard.
We were commissioned to produce a brochure for ‘Housing Rights in Practice’, a project that focuses on people living in poor housing conditions in Leith. In addition to a print brochure, we were asked to create a digital version, accessible for screen reading software.
We produced a friendly and inclusive, yet professional brochure design with the aim of appealing to communities in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The soft and contemporary colour palette used throughout the brochure creates a calm and welcoming aesthetic. We also adopted contrasting colours to ensure legibility and accessibility for those reading the brochure on a screen. The clean, modern typeface is legible across all touch points, whilst the use of typographic hierarchy breaks down important information in a clear and easily digestible way. This is further facilitated by the use of bullet points, bar charts and pull out quotes, which highlight key takeaways.
We developed a series of simplistic, yet eye catching illustrations, which were rolled out across the brochure. Friendly and playful without appearing childish, the illustrations add a human touch, appealing to readers, whilst reinforcing the brochures primary focus.
